Career Development and Placement Cell of Barrackpore Rastraguru Surendranath College, 85 Middle Road & 6 Riverside Road, Barrackpore - 120, is a unique institutional arrangement - incorporated in the year 2003-04 - designed primarily to motivated to empower the student community in particular during the Final / Third Year of their UG studies and to secure full time jobs.

The Career Development Cell (inc.2003-04) is sincerely pursuing its mission of creating awareness regarding career opportunities, counselling Students to pursue career according to their potential, and bridging the industry- academia gap by providing need based finishing school programme and placement linkage.

In the first assessment report, the members of the visiting Peer Team of NAAC (Dec. 2002) noted the names of only two industries, which had conducted campus interviews. However, during the re-accreditation (March 2009) and afterwards more companies and corporate houses have visited our campus and recruited our students as their employees. Some of these hiring drives were conducted through the Pool-Campus mode. To name a few -

The Career Development and Placement Cell of Barrackpore Rastraguru Surendranath College also enables the students to get exposure regarding the current trends of industry and arranges Career Counselling Expo cum Job Fair under UGC Merged Scheme. This event brings together education institutes, fresh entry level talented individuals looking forward to further education,Part-time courses, distance courses, etc. under one roof. The Career Expo cum Job Fair is one of the most remarkable events that bring together Institutes and organizations from various verticals under one roof with highly competitive and professional job seekers and individuals looking to pursue some or the other kind of additional qualification; thereby serving as the platform for an open and wide-ranging career and employment opportunities.

Another hallmark of the centre is that it conducts training programmes in Communication Skills. Soft skill, Numerical Aptitude Development, Analytical Aptitude Development for the students. This training programme is run on a Full-Time One Year Certificate Course mode. The aforesaid training is a self-sponsored course that is being offered to the Final / Third Year Students during their inception to the Third/Final Year Degree Curriculum and is run during the usual college hours. Besides, the course / training is also conducted the usual vacations of the college so that maximum utilisation of the resource and time may be made.

The Career Development and Placement Cell of the college leaves no leaf unturned to enable students of the college and job seekers for Govt. - State and Central Govt. - fulfil their aspirations. The Career Corner of the college provides information regarding the advertisements of various Govt. Jobs and also provides coaching for Banks, Railway Recruitment Board, PSC, SSC, Central School Service Examination, Primary Teachers Recruitment Examinations, UGC SET / NET Coaching under UGC Merged Scheme. The success rates in the examinations are also commendable so far.

A significant milestone has been achieved when the college got the approval and necessary funds from the UGC to conduct Three Career Oriented Courses - (1) Computer Aided Accounting and Taxation, (2) Foreign Trade with Logistics and e-commerce and (2) Career Oriented Soft Skills. The curriculum has been approved by West Bengal State University.

The students aspiring to career in the field of Software and Programming are being helped by the NIELIT (formerly ICEI- DOEACC) Centre at the 85 Middle Road Campus of the college.

It is indeed a pleasure for the Career Development and Placement Cell to provide training and secure placements for our students.

Career Development Cell for Placement Promotion

The career Development and Placement Cell of the College, under the leadership of Dr. Nilay Karchoudhury and Sri Partha Banerjee (Coordinators) started its Campus Hiring activities from 17/12/2012. TCS organised the 80 hours Employability Programme at the College from 17/12/2012 to 5/01/2013. Around 135 students (B.A, B.Sc and B.Com 3rd Year Honours & General) participated in the Training and Hiring Programme. This has been the Third consecutive year that the College has hosted such training programme. The Placement record so far, till present date has been mentioned hereunder (result / feedback from TCS Open Ignite (IT) is yet to come)

In addition, the Entry in Services wing of the Career Development Cell has also delivered noticeable results with a Success Rate of 90% in the Central School Service Commission - TET, and 85% Success in the IBPS (Indian Banking Personnel Selection) - Clerical Written Examination.

With the enormous support from the members of Faculty, non-teaching staff and invaluable contribution from Prof. Basab Chaudhuri (Registrar, CU), Sri Srijib Bardhan (Deputy Director, EIRC ICAI), Dr. Chittaranjan Mondal (Cairman, Central School Services Commission), Sri Koulick Ghosh (Journalist, ABP), Dr. Rajib Dasgupta (Dept. of Commerce, CU), Prof Sanjay Kumar (HOD, Dept. of Electronics, Jadavpur University) and other eminent academicians from different disciplines of Humanities, Social Science, Science and Commerce the Career Fair marched towards its mission.
